A Short Biography of Sheikh Muhammad Adil Ar Rabbani

"Power is now all centered in one place.

It is with you (Sheikh Muhammad Adil) now"

- Moulana Sheikh Nazim Adil al Haqqani

Moulana Sheikh Muhammad Adil Ar Rabbani was born on the 29th day of March 1957 (27th Shaban 1376), in Damascus, Syria. He is the second of the four children and is the eldest son of Sultan ul Awliya, Moulana Sheikh Nazim Adil Al Haqqani (Qs) and Hajja Amina Adil (Ra). He is married to Hajja Filiz and has four children; two girls and two boys. Sultan ul Awliya, Moulana Sheikh Nazim is the Spiritual Guide and the 40th Grandsheikh of the Naqshbandi Golden Chain of transmission. His paternal great Grandfather is Ghauz ul Alam, Muhiyyuddin Abdul Qadir Jilani (Ra), the most famous Saint of Islam and founder of the Qadriya Tariqa. His maternal Grandfather is the well-known Sufi Saint, Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi (Ra), who is the founder of the Mevlevi Tariqa. Therefore, Moulana Sheikh Muhammad Adil's lineage traces through his mother and father to the The Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sal), thus he is of the blood of The Prophet Muhammad (Sal) and belonging to The Holy Prophet's family. Hajja Amina Adil, his mother, who is also of the blood of The Prophet Muhammad (Sal), is from a Tartar family who had migrated to Damascus from Orenburg Bakey, which is a town in the Republic of the Russian Federation. She had to leave her birthplace and migrate to Syria's capital, Damascus, due to the anti-religion policies of Russia at that time.

The birth of Sheikh Muhammad Adil was not without a miracle, in that he was born circumcised. When Sheikh Muhammad Adil was one week of age, he was taken by his noble father, Moulana Sheikh Nazim (Qs), to his Grandsheikh, Abdullah Faiz Ad Daghestani, who looked at Sheikh Muhammad and verified this miracle.

Moulana Sheikh Muhammad Adil spent his youth in Damascus and was constantly under the guidance of both Grandsheikh Abdullah Faiz Daghestani and also of his virtuous father, Moulana Sheikh Nazim Adil Al Haqqani (Qs). Sheikh Muhammad received spiritual training from them in the practices of the Tariqa and was brought up under the discipline of The Most Distinguished Naqshbandi Tariqa. He also completed his Islamic education from the scholars of Syria. It is hardly known about his life in Damascus and subsequently in Cyprus and in Istanbul because the focus was not on him as the future successor of his Grandsheikh and blessed father. He grew up with almost no prominence, as he was humble and was kept away from most of the distinguished Caliphas of Moulana Sheikh Nazim (Qs) at that time. He was content to work at his father's farm at the mountains and therefore, did not become the subject of discussion regarding either Spirituality or for that matter, even Succession. It is said that Sultan ul Awliya, Moulana Sheikh Nazim (Qs) had confided in a few of his most trustworthy mureeds, the news that Sheikh Muhammad Adil would be his Spiritual Successor after Moulana Sheikh Nazim (Qs). This was known as far back as from 1999. The fact remains that Sheikh Muhammad Adil's appointment was kept a secret so that he grew up in safety, like a pearl within a shell, till the time that he was to manifest himself. Hence it was easy for Sheikh Muhammad Adil to be trained without any worldly distraction and obstacles from the ones not being able to upset the Divine Plan. lt was a few years before the passing away of Sultan ul Awliya, Moulana Sheikh Nazim (Qs), that his position as Successor was declared to the world. This was very surprising and incredible for most people, but had to be accepted as Moulana Sheikh Nazim (Qs) did not only appoint his son Sheikh Muhammad Adil as his Spiritual Successor and the sole Chief but also said that he will be the next Grandsheikh after Moulana Sheikh Nazim (Qs) in The Naqshbandi Golden Chain of Transmission, which consist of the most elite of all Saints.

However, everyone was taken aback at Moulana Sheikh Nazim's declaration about Sheikh Muhammad Adil. People wondered whether Sheikh Muhammad Adil will be able to fulfil his task and have the knowledge and the acumen to lead The Most Distinguished Naqshbandi Tariqa. But Moulana Sheikh Nazim (Qs) had prepared and trained him well, according to the Divine Plan, and with the Grace of Allah Almighty, he took over after Moulana Sheikh Nazim went to meet his Lord on the 7th May 2014, (8th Rajab 1435) as the chief and leader of the Most Distinguished Naqshabandi Tariqa. With the full support of his brother, Sheikh Bahauddin and a few sincere mureeds of Moulana Sheikh Nazim, at his side, he took on his mighty task and succeeded in gradually proving to the people that he was indeed the best choice for the role of Moulana Sheikh Nazim's Successor.

Sheikh Muhammad Adil has begun travelling like his father did, and has already been to many countries in the world. Wherever he visits, he is received with great love, respect and honor due to the shining attributes he is possessing. It takes only a little effort to notice his lovable qualities within a short time of meeting him and one cannot help but fall in love with him. Fortunately, we had the golden opportunity to be with Moulana Sheikh Muhammad Adil, in India in November 2015, to greet him, travel with him, talk to him, be with him and mostly to watch his unimaginably amazing humble behavior which proved to us over and over again that he is of the highest quality of Awliya. There is Tremendous Jazibah, (Spiritual Attraction) for him. People are amazed and curious as to who this great person is. Many stopped to ask details of him and many others requested to meet him and took pictures with him. He always obliged. Even in Jamaat Prayers, he does as his father did, he never makes it heavy for others by performing lengthy prayers.

We clearly see that Sheikh Muhammad has no ill qualities, no backbiting, no misleading people, does not go against Sultan ul Awliya Moulana Sheikh Nazim's teachings, no self appointments, no flattering of Murids by giving them false titles. He does not have selected favorite Murids nor does he give special attention or priority to anyone in particular. He does not threaten or curse anyone even when they do wrong to him. He is very firm in his goal to please Allah Almighty. In response to some antagonistic objections, Sheikh Muhammad Adil replied 'I am sitting here to follow and honour my Sheikh's order, and that's it. People who told me to leave being the Sheikh will have to wait until I lay in my grave next to Sheikh Nazim's feet, until then I will obey Allah's order and fear no one else."

Sheikh Muhammad Adil is the very essence of humbleness and he treats all who come to him equally. If someone stops to talk to him he stops and listens to them. The rich and the poor, the educated and uneducated, the sick and the healthy are all given a patient hearing and we did not see Sheikh Muhammad Adil make any distinction amongst them. He treats each one with respect and no one is afraid to approach him. Even if a child comes up to him, he gives that child time. His voice was always soft and in control. We never saw him shout at anyone or raise his voice. When he walks, he walks very humbly and briskly. His attitude is service to Allah Almighty and not to impress people. His characteristics has to be like that of his great forefather, the Beloved Prophet Muhammad (Sal). It was incredibly amazing to witness such beautiful rare qualities in Sheikh Muhammad Adil.

Sheikh Muhammad Adil always tries to do his things by himself. He puts on and takes off his shoes and his socks, he wheels his own baggage cart and carries his own things. He is reluctant when people tries to help him in these things. As anyone can clearly see for themselves the type of person he is, the moment they set their eyes on him, it is never necessary to make prior announcements about him before he arrives at any venue. He does not claim that he is superior to anyone. He cares nothing for money and he always tries to meet his own expenses as much as possible. He is humble enough to walk through the dirtiest and most poverty ridden alleyways. He is full of affection towards the poor and the weak. We saw him, on many occasions, stopping for the beggars seated on the ground to give them charity, and these are truly very special qualities rarely seen today. Everyone's heart is attracted to him. You do not need to know some important person, who knows someone more important, so as to get to him. He is accessible to everybody who wants blessings from him and is always there for everyone who wants him as their Sheikh. He is truly the son and worthy successor of the Sultan ul Awliya, Moulana Sheikh Nazim Adil Al Haqqani (Qs). We are indeed very proud to have him as our Murshid, the most Blessed, Moulana Sheikh Muhammad Adil ar Rabbani.

The Spiritual leaders cannot be self appointed. They are appointed by Divine Headquarters according to the Divine Plan. The Naqshbandi Saints are 7007, out of which our Golden Chain consists of 41 Grandsheikhs. Sheikh Muhammad Adil is the 41st Grandsheikh of The Most Distinguished Naqshbandi (Haqqani) Tariqa. He was, during the lifetime of Moulana Sheikh Nazim (Qs), appointed to be in the Golden Chain by Moulana Sheikh Nazim (Qs) himself. There are no other Sheikhs who can be followed as a Murshid, after Moulana Sheikh Nazim (Qs) but Sheikh Muhammad Adil. The secret of The Prophet Muhammad (Sal) which was with Sultan ul Awliya, Moulana Sheikh Nazim (Qs) was passed on to Sheikh Muhammad Adil and he is now the possessor of this. This secret has been coming down the line of The Golden Chain of The Naqshbandi Tariqa from Abu Bakr As Siddique (Ra), right down to Moulana Sheikh Nazim (Qs), who has now passed it over to Sheikh Muhammad Adil.

Sheikh Muhammad Adil never hankered after any position. He was content to serve his noble father and was mostly seen meekly working at his father's farm. Although he did not go after greatness, greatness was thrust upon him when he was suddenly called to succeed Sultan ul Awliya, Moulana Sheikh Nazim (Qs). It may not have been easy for him to accept such a grand task, knowing the great responsibility he will be undertaking. But he accepted it for the sake of Allah Almighty. Sheikh Muhammad Adil, according to Grandsheikh Abdullah Faiz Ad Daghestani, will one day be Seven (7) times more powerful than Moulana Sheikh Nazim (Qs). In the Naqshbandi Tariqat, one murid is trained to surpass his Grandsheikh at the time of that Grandsheikhs demise or a little later. This is why the Naqshbandi Tariqa is always becoming more powerful and is always on the ascent. Sheikh Muhammad Adil is the continuation of Sultan ul Awliya, Moulana Sheikh Nazim (Qs), and he also represents all the other Grandsheikhs in The Golden Chain of Transmission.

Sheikh Muhammad Adil Ar Rabbani is now blazing a trail of Glory across the Skies like a Shooting Star, soon to reach to the Highest Ranks of Sainthood known to man. This is just the beginning of his lofty journey and we will have a lot more to learn about his teachings and of his miracles. We will be updating this page as and when these events take place.
